Zephyr Field is affectionately known as the "Shrine on Airline" — a 10,000-seat stadium next door to the Saints and Pelicans practice facility that is host to New Orleans's own professional baseball team.

The New Orleans Zephyrs are the AAA-affiliate of the Miami Marlins, which means our local team is the last step for these players on their long journey to the major leagues.

The New Orleans Pelicans drafted Kentucky forward Nerlens Noel sixth overall in the 2013 NBA draft Thursday night, and almost immediately traded him and a 2014 first-round pick to Philadelphia for guard Jrue Holiday and the 2013 draft's 42nd pick, Pierre Jackson, a point guard out of Baylor University.

Holiday has averaged 13.4 points, 5.8 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game in his four seasons with the 76ers. He averaged 17.7 points and 5.8 assists per game in an All-Star year this past season.

The New Orleans Saints pre-season starts August 25 when they take on the Houston Texans. But for football fanatics who just can’t wait that long, don’t fret — there is another team in town.

It is two minutes to game time. The players are amped up, suited up and huddled around their coach for one last pep talk before heading to the field. But this team probably isn’t what usually comes to mind when people think of professional football.

Pelicans To Pick Sixth In NBA Draft

The New Orleans Pelicans landed the number-six pick in last night’s NBA Draft lottery in New York City.

It’s the system the league uses to determine the order in which teams draft players each year. The Pelicans were hoping to reprise their lottery win last year, when they selected star Anthony Davis first overall. However, they only had an 8.8 percent chance of getting the top pick this year.

Instead, the Cleveland Cavaliers came away with the top selection for the June 27 draft. This is the Cavaliers’ second number-one pick in the past three years.
