Artificial Heart Provides Bridge to Transplant

Dr. Hector Ventura leads the Ochsner team that implanted the "Total Artificial Heart" for the first time in February. Their patient, a father of five now awaiting a matching donor heart, was the first in the Gulf Coast region to receive the device.

Ochsner's Transplant Team Heralded

The Multi-Transplant Institute Team at the Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans was recognized as Number One in the U.S. for the year 2012 by CareChex, based on mortality and complication rates.
 
Dr. Nigel Girgrah, Liver Transplant Director, says Ochsner's Living Donor Program helps prevent deaths of patients on the waiting list by reducing wait times.

Ochsner Doc Named to Medical Board

Dr. Joseph Bisordi has been named to the board of directors of the American Medical Group Association.

Bisordi is executive vice president and chief medical officer for the Ochsner Health System.

The association, headquartered in Alexandria, Va., represents a variety of organizations in the health care field.

Bisordi is responsible for overseeing all aspects of physician performance and clinical operations at Ochsner's hospitals and clinics and its physician group practice.

He is a graduate of Manhattan College and Georgetown University School of Medicine.
