The Kisatchie National Forest will open up its entire 600,000-plus acres for a one-day youth turkey hunt on March 16. There are 115 slots available for the hunt. Friday is the application deadline to enter a lottery-style selection process. Wildlife biologist Jonny Fryar of the Calcasieu Ranger District said this will be the first time that all of Kisatchie will be open for a youth hunt.
Hundreds of soon-to-be brides flocked to a weekend bridal fair at the Bossier Civic Center. They mingled with more than 100 wedding vendors. Many of those vendors are entrepreneurs, including the editor of Bossier City-based Weddings With Style Magazine. Lana Rosalee has organized the bridal fair for 12 years.

Starting this fall high school football teams in Louisiana will compete in separate playoff divisions: one for select admission schools – such as private and parochial schools – and another for non-select public schools.
Wiley College in Marshall, Texas, will debate Harvard University on Friday, Jan. 25, in an exhibition match on Wiley’s campus. The debate is a nod to the 2007 Denzel Washington film “The Great Debaters” that depicted the success of Wiley’s debate team in 1935. In the film, Wiley takes down Harvard.
On Tuesday, Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman approved an adjusted route for the Keystone XL Pipeline that avoids that state’s fragile Sand Hills. Soon after, 53 senators – including both from Louisiana – wrote a letter to President Obama supporting the project.
