Louisianans who are interested in keeping Louisiana French alive will meet Saturday in Derry, La., for what’s called the Natchitoches French Table. Dustin Fuqua, cultural resource specialist for the Cane River Creole National Historical Park, launched the Natchitoches French Table in January.
In the Finance committee Thursday Senators questioned the way the House filled the hole it dug in the proposed budget for next year. The House took out one-time money, from selling state property, court settlements, and dedicated funds, and put in a tax amnesty program.

The Texas Wing of the Civil Air Patrol will undergo its semiannual evaluation this weekend by the U.S. Air Force. For the first time, this exercise will be carried out at the Texas Wing’s new headquarters in Nacogdoches, Texas. Capt. David McCollum of Spring, Texas, said the Air Force will evaluate the Texas Wing’s search and rescue response and a how it functions in a natural disaster scenario.
Hundreds of parents, children, teachers and administrators rallied on the steps of the Capitol calling on lawmakers to find a new way to fund private school vouchers, chanting "You promised/ to put kids first."
