Report: Juvenile detention population down

A report by Louisiana State University on the current status of the juvenile justice system has concluded multiple parishes have seen a decline in the number of youths detained over the past five years.

A study from the Institute for Public Health and Justice reported Tuesday some parishes have seen as much as a 45 percent decrease in the average daily detention populations since 2007.

There have also been decreases in youths on parole supervision and on local and state probation supervision.
