New Saints president to teach Loyola class

Dennis Lauscha, a graduate of Loyola University and the newly promoted president of the New Orleans Saints, will return to his alma mater to teach a course on the business of professional football at the university's inaugural Alumni College.

Senators reverse most of House budget cuts

BATON ROUGE, La. — The Senate's budget-writing committee refused to agree to deep cuts pushed by House Republicans for next year's $25 million state operating budget.

Senators on the Finance Committee restored an estimated $350 million to next year's 2012-13 spending plans. They added back the one-time money removed by a bloc of conservative House Republicans, and they also tapped into available health care financing and plugged in further piecemeal dollars.

Pomp and Circumstance

It’s that time of year when Edward Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1 is played to the delight of millions of graduates in high school and college. The selection of a march is appropriate given that students must face a certain rise in college tuition and an antagonistic job market. For good or for bad, the credentials of a high school diploma and college degree pave a one-lane bridge to economic and social independence.

The University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors has unanimously selected Peter Fos as the new president of the University of New Orleans. 

Fos graduated from UNO in 1972. He's now the director of health policy and system management at LSU Health Sciences Center. After he was selected at the supervisors' Baton Rouge meeting, Fos said his first priority is improving the UNO brand.

The University of New Orleans has a new president, selected by the University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors from UNO's own community.

Board members meeting in Baton Rouge announced that Peter Fos will be the new president. Fos graduated from UNO in 1972. He's currently program director for health policy and systems management at the LSU Health Sciences Center. Fos says there are two items on his immediate to-do list.
