Carmelo Anthony was hungry, and not just to end the Knicks' losing streak.
He wanted something to eat.
Anthony, struggling to keep his energy up while fasting for two weeks, snapped out of a slow start by scoring 18 of his 27 points in the second quarter, and New York ended its season-high, three-game skid with a 100-87 victory over the New Orleans Hornets on Sunday.
This Sunday the New Orleans Hornets head to New York’s Madison Square Garden to face the Knicks. The Knicks have been playing without some key players; the Hornets have regained a full roster.

The New Orleans Hornets came into tonight’s game still hot off their overtime win in Dallas two days before, shutting down the high-flying San Antonio Spurs in front of a raucous crowd at the New Orleans Arena, 95-88.
The Spurs (27-10), were boxed out by a strong New Orleans defensive effort and a yeoman’s effort from Greivis Vasquez and Eric Gordon, who combined for 38 points, 13 assists and 7 rebounds. Vasquez recorded his tenth double-double of the season, and Gordon put up 24 points, 8 of those in the final quarter.
The Hornets have signed guard Donald Sloan to a 10-day contract, the team reported earlier today. Sloan most recently played for the Sioux Falls NBA Development League team, and appeared in 33 NBA games during the 2011-12 season, including three games with the Hornets.
During his time with the Hornets, Sloan averaged 4.0 points, 2.7 assists, and 1.0 rebounds in an average of 13.7 minutes a game.
Eric Gordon took control in the last minutes of overtime, scoring the New Orleans Hornets’ last 8 points and leading his team to victory on the road against the Dallas Mavericks.
Gordon started his final assault with 1:49 left to play in overtime, driving through the Dallas defense for a reverse lay-up to bring the Bees within one, 94-93. He then knocked down a go-ahead three-pointer, before the Mavericks’ O.J Mayo pulled up for a jumper to tie the game at 96.
