Every Friday night from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. enjoy two hours of the best jazz of the last 70 years — with a strong accent on New Orleans.

Award-winning producer and host Fred Kasten has programmed and presented great jazz on the radio for over 32 years, nearly 30 of those years at 89.9 WWNO, New Orleans Public Radio, including three months just after Katrina when Kasten broadcast Saturday Night Jazz on WWNO live from his home in the Carrollton neighborhood of the Crescent City.

Kasten, who was recently profiled in the on-line edition of JazzTimes, launched his current program,Jazz New Orleans, in late April of 2013. He says that each episode features “two hours of the best jazz from the last 70 years, with a strong accent on New Orleans, and an extended conversation with a significant jazz artist, our “Player of the Week.”

Artists featured in the “Player of the Week” slot so far include Ellis Marsalis, Sonny Rollins, Herbie Hancock, Danny Barker, GermaineBazzle, Wayne Shorter, Karrin Allyson, Eddie Palmieri and Horace Silver. Players currently scheduled for the weekly spotlight include Jason Marsalis, George Duke, Evan Christopher, Larry Vuckovich, Nicholas Payton, John Vidacovich, Anat Cohen and Steven Bernstein.
