Louisiana’s second flood recovery funding request has fallen short on Capitol Hill.
Legislation currently under consideration in Congress will fund the federal government through the end of April. It includes $1.4 billion in flood relief for Louisiana.
That’s a little more than half of what Governor Edwards was expecting from this funding bill -- set for a vote by the end of this week.
The Governors office says they’re not discouraged by the amount, pointing instead to the quick appropriation of $438 million dollars in September that allowed the state to move forward on recovery plans.
In a statement, Senator Bill Cassidy called the funding “an important next step” towards getting residents lives back on track.
A spokesperson for Edwards said the Governor is prepared to lobby for more funding in the spring - with continued support from the Louisiana delegation - under a Trump administration.
