Four people were airlifted to regional hospitals by the Coast Guard this morning after a supply ship fire, according to a statement released by Coast Guard Sector New Orleans.
The Coast Guard says they received a report of a vessel fire from the offshore supply ship Dustin Santos at approximately 7 a.m. Monday morning.
The crew of the Dustin Santos recovered four people in a life raft and transferred them to a nearby offshore platform (in "ship shoal block 154," an area leased by petrochemical exploration firm Century New Orleans, a subsidiary of RAAM Global Energy Company), about 35 miles southwest of Grand Isle.
Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans dispatched two MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crews to the platform, and medevaced the four people to Baton Rouge General Hospital and West Jefferson Medical Center.
