New Orleans, La. – The Secretary of State's office will be double-checking the votes today that were tallied in Saturday's contest. Donald Villere came out ahead by four votes over Trilby Lenfant. Both sides are expected to watch the certification process as the machines are checked at a Covington warehouse. Neither candidate has suggested an official recount if the numbers change. The winner replaces Mayor Eddie Price, who has pleaded guilty to mail fraud and tax evasion. He resigned last fall, and is scheduled to be sentenced next month in federal court. Meantime, the mayor of Slidell will be Freddy Drennan. He won Saturday's contest with over 50 percent of the vote.
