Louisiana Releases Preliminary Common Core Test Results

Last spring, students across Louisiana took a new standardized test called PARCC — also known as the Common Core test. Now the state has released preliminary test scores.

PARCC tests students on math and English language arts. According to preliminary results, only 22-40 percent of students mastered those subjects, depending on the grade level.

State Superintendent John White says the scores are "roughly comparable" to past results on previous tests.

"The results of these assessments do not indicate a radically different level of performance for Louisiana students this year from last year," White says. "What should be radically different is how we adults approach using these test questions."

Eleven states plus the District of Columbia used the PARCC test last spring. Louisiana will release individual student scores in November. The raw scores came after critics pushed for results before the October 24 state school board election.
