New Orleans, La. – Jefferson is free pending his sentencing October 30th on convictions of money laundering, racketeering and bribery. Standing outside the federal courthouse in Alexandria, Virginia, Jefferson said he was "holding up" after the jury returned its verdict. Prosecutors had asked that he be taken immediately into custody because they considered him a flight risk. Jurors deliberated for five days after an eight-week trial dominated by government witnesses. The defense presented only two, and Jefferson himself did not take the stand. Jurors will be back in court today to decide if he has to forfeit more than $450-thousand dollars prosecutors say he received in bribes. FBI agents recovered $90-thousand dollars in marked bills from the freezer of his Washington, D-C home.
