Inside The Arts: Phunny Phorty Phellows, Krewe of Joan of Arc, Festival PiaNOLA

This week on Inside the Arts, we usher in the Carnival season with two Twelfth Night celebrations.  First, the Phunny Phorty Phellows gear up for their annual historic streetcar ride.  Captain Peggy Scott Laborde talks about the festivities and a major milestone in her professional career as host of "Steppin' Out" on WYES-TV.

Then, the festivities continue as the 9th annual Joan of Arc Parade walks the French Quarter. The unique parade melding medieval revelry and Mardi Gras celebrates Joan's birth which coincides with Twelfth Night. Parade founder Amy Kirk joins us.

And, a festival for music lovers makes its debut.  Festival PiaNOLA celebrates keyboard artistry bringing together the Musical Arts Society of New Orleans and the LPO featuring acclaimed pianist Anne-Marie McDermott.  MASNO's executive director Cara McCool Woolf stops by for a chat.

"This is NPR's Morning Edition, at 89.9 WWNO. Good Morning, I'm Diane Mack."
