Inside The Arts: Decoding The Purity Of An Icon, JazzFest 2018, Bassist Ron Carter

This week on Inside the Arts, an enriching connection with our neighbors to the South grows stronger as New Orleans is now home to the 5th Mexican Cultural Institute in the country.

The institute located within the Mexican Consulate opens with a new exhibit of oil paintings by artist Belinda Flores-Shinshillas. It's called Decoding the Purity of an Icon. Belinda Flores-Shinshillas joins us with Lorena Salazar, director of the Mexican Cultural Institute.

Then, the 49th New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival celebrates the city's Tricentennial with a cultural blow-out.

And, WWNO's Fred Kasten catches up with legendary jazz bassist Ron Carter.

Airs Tuesdays at 1:00 p.m., Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m., and Thursdays at 8:45 a.m.

"This is NPR's Morning Edition, at 89.9 WWNO. Good Morning, I'm Diane Mack."
