Happy New Year
New Orleans, LA –
Hi, this is Richard McCarthy with the WWNO Farmers Market Minute
Happy New Year! While most years are tough for our wild harvest fishing families, last year may have been harder than most. The FDA did their best to knock Louisiana oysters out of existence; and the global dumping of imports brought prices down at the docks. And yet, when I meet fishermen and their families selling at farmers markets, I am inspired. I learn that they are first rate innovators. If you've ever toured a shrimpers' boat, you'd see how much effort goes into equipping their specialized crafts. If you haven't, check out local film maker David Aman. He has produced a series YouTube films that highlight fishing innovations. Learn about oyster drills, garfish, sweetwater catfish, and BRDS. And I don't mean the ones with feathers. B-R-Ds are bycatch reduction devices. To find films and fishermen, log onto WWNO.org.
For the Farmers Market Minute, this is Richard McCarthy.
