Gov. Edwards To Address State On Budget Crisis, Live Thursday At 6:30 P.M.

On Thursday, February 11 at 6:30 p.m., Gov. John Bel Edwards will make a live address to the state regarding what his office is referring to as "historic" budget shortfalls.

The address will air live on 89.9-FM WWNO in New Orleans, 90.5-FM KTLN in the Houma-Thibodaux region, and will stream on WWNO.org.

After the conclusion of the address, New Orleans Public Radio News Director Eve Troeh will be joined by Stephanie Grace, Political Columnist with The Advocate, live in the studio for post-speech analysis.

The Edwards Administration says there is an estimated $750 million gap in the current fiscal year budget, which must be closed by June 30. Additionally, next fiscal year is projected to have a $1.9 billion budget shortfall -- the largest in Louisiana's history, according to the governor's office.

The governor will present his executive budget to the legislature on Saturday, Feb. 13, and has called the state legislature into a three-week special session, beginning Sunday, Feb. 14.

At 8 p.m. WWNO will air the live Democratic Presidential Candidate Debate from Milwaukee.
