One of the people celebrating election returns with Congressional candidate Edwin Edwards goes way back with the former governor.
All the way back to the federal courtroom where — in 2000 — Edwards was convicted of corruption.
Victor Durand played a key role in that trial. He was known as “Juror 68.”
The New Orleans Advocate reports that Durand has been supporting Edwards in his current campaign to represent Congressional District 6.
Back in the trial days, Durand was seen as favorable to the defense, but was dismissed during deliberations. He’d brought a dictionary to deliberations and left with notes.
The appeal was unsuccessful, and Edwards went to prison in 2002. He was released in 2011.
Now the Democrat is in a runoff with Republican candidate Garret Graves, set for December 6.
