As the drive toward more environmental sustainability in our daily lives increases, businesses have responded by offering more eco-friendly products, services and policies — or at least, they say they have. Greenwashing is a term used for companies that claim to be acting in an environmentally responsible way, but in reality are not. The research shows that a whopping 95 percent of products are greenwashed. So, how can you tell what’s real and what’s not? Look for third-party certified products with clearly labeled seals and research them. Many companies bent on greenwashing tend to create their own fake certification just to fool consumers. If it seems too good to be true, chances are, it just might be.
So, do a little homework and you won’t get hosed.
