Centenary to host Kennedy Center theater festival

Centenary College will host the Kennedy Center regional theater festival this month. More than 1,000 people are expected to come from a six-state region. Luke Eddy, marketing and logistics coordinator for the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, said six plays will be performed during the week-long event. It will also include dozens of workshops and auditions for jobs with theater companies.

"Faculty, staff, students, national committee members from the Kennedy Center, regional festival members, as well as professional guest artists are going to be comprising that 1,000 people who are showing up to Shreveport-Bossier for an entire week," Eddy said.

The performances will be held at the Strand Theatre in downtown Shreveport. Eddy said he needed a venue that could accommodate large audiences.

"It was sort of icing on the cake that we were able to get the historic Strand Theatre, which is a touring Broadway venue and able to give these students an added educational experience," Eddy said.

A panel of judges will select the best production to advance to the national festival held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. in the spring. Eddy said Centenary will host the festival for three years. It’s is open to the public, and runs from Feb. 26 - March 2.
