Hurricane season is upon us. Does your evacuation plan include your pet?

Under no circumstances should you ever leave your pet behind. Pets are members of the family and should always be included in disaster preparations.

Make sure you set aside at least five days' worth of food, water and medication for your pet. Have a plan for a pet friendly destination when you evacuate. It's also very important to be sure that your pets are up to date on their vaccinations, ID tags and microchips, and that you have copies of their medical records in case you need to board your dog or cat during an evacuation.

The Louisiana SPCA has more information on disaster preparedness and an evacuation checklist.
