New Orleans, La. – GNO president Michael Hecht says about half as many permits are being issued by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management for shallow-water drilling. Those rigs were not included in the drilling moratorium for deepwater operations, but are lagging behind numbers issued for the same time last year, and that's a concern.
Melissa Sawyer came to New Orleans from her native Canada through "Teach for America" in 1998, and was assigned special education students at Booker T. Washington High School. She later discovered that she didn't really like the classroom-teaching part of the job. She was much more successful in after-class contacts and activities. She often made home visits and took her students on field trips, forming strong emotional ties that she cherished.
New Orleans, La. – A royal visit from the United Kingdom kicks off a celebration honoring the 200th Anniversary of classical pianist and composer Frederic Chopin at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1329 Jackson Avenue. Pianist Lady Rose Cholmondeley performs Chopin in London, a piano concert of all Chopin music. She is joined by English multi-media actor Charles Grant who will read Chopin's letters. Tonight, 7pm.

MIX TOGETHER 2 CUPS COOKED RICE 6 T FLOUR 3 HEAPING T SUGAR 2 TSP. BAKING POWDER 1/4 TSP. SALT 1/4 TSP. VANILLA NUTMEG THEN ADD 2 EGGS TOPPING POWDERED SUGAR
Mix the rice and dry ingredients together thoroughly. Add the eggs and when thoroughly mixed, drop by spoonfuls into hot deep fat (360 degrees) and fry until brown. Drain on paper. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve hot.
