Zulu Krewe Sues Former Member For Trademark Infringement

The Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club has taken a former member to federal court for trademark infringement. He's accused of using club trademarks without permission to sell memorabilia online, like one of the club’s coveted coconut throws.

The Advocate reports that a federal hearing Monday may show who’s legally entitled to use the Zulu Mardi Gras krewe’s name on Facebook.

Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club Inc. filed suit against a former associate member for trademark infringement. The lawsuit says the man set up a “Zulu Mardi Gras” Facebook page, and used club trademarks without permission in an attempt to sell invitations to the Zulu Mardi Gras ball, spots on a Zulu float, and one of the club’s coveted coconut throws.

The Iconic Signage Project Puts Zulu's Name In Lights

Zulu's new neon sign. A number of businesses on Broad St. have received new neon signs thanks to the Iconic Signage Project.

If you’re driving down Broad Street in the evening, you might notice some new bright neon signs. They're a collaboration between the Arts Council of New Orleans, local designers and a local community development non-profit.

As more businesses boast neon signs along this historic corridor, The Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club is the most recent organization to partner with Broad Community Connections and the Iconic Signage Project.

Zulu 100th Anniversary

2009 marks the 100-year anniversary of the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club, one of New Orleans' most renowned benevolent societies and Carnival organizations. A yearlong exhibit opens tomorrow at the Louisiana State Museum in Jackson Square, exploring Zulu's origins, unique Carnival traditions and civic contributions.
