Jindal Names New UL System Board Members

Gov. Bobby Jindal has named eight members to the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors, replacing or re-appointing seven members whose terms expired and one who stepped down.

The resigning member, former governor's office lawyer Jimmy Faircloth, was replaced by his wife, Kelly.

Jindal re-appointed Jimmie Martin Jr. of Cut Off, Jimmy Long Sr. of Natchitoches and Winfred Sibille of Sunset.

Ragin’ Cajuns Defeat East Carolina in New Orleans Bowl, 43-34

The Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns defeated the East Carolina Pirates 43-34 on Saturday in a wildly-entertaining 12th edition of the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in front of a record crowd.

Ragin’ Cajuns fans packed the Superdome for ULL’s second consecutive New Orleans Bowl championship. The official attendance for Saturday’s game was 48,828, beating last year’s record-setting crowd by more than 6,000 fans.

Subsidy increase to Cajundome to be considered

The Lafayette City-Parish Council is considering an increased subsidy to the Cajundome.

The Advertiser reports the council this week briefly discussed City-Parish President Joey Durel's proposed $550,000 allocation to the Cajundome for the upcoming fiscal year, which marks a $50,000 increase from the current fiscal year.

The Cajundome subsidy has come under fire from some of the council's nine members in the past. On Tuesday, however, no councilmen suggested eliminating the allocation, as has been done in previous years.
