Baton Rouge Company Gets $44.8M Canal Contract in New Orleans

A Baton Rouge company has a $44.8 million, 48-month contract for concrete-covered canals along two New Orleans streets.

The Army Corps of Engineers says the canals will reduce the risk of damages from the equivalent of about nine inches of rain over 24 hours. Such storms have a 10 percent chance of happening in any given year.

Cajun Constructors Inc. has the contract for about 3,700 feet of canal along Jefferson Avenue between Dryades and Constance streets, and another 1,300 feet along Prytania Street between Nashville and Jefferson avenues.

Super Bowl Street Closures Suspended for Hornets Games

Traffic restrictions around parts of downtown, enacted this past weekend as part of the run-up to this year's Super Bowl, will be suspended during Hornets games to allow access, the Mercedes-Benz Superdome announced today on Twitter.

Lane and exit closures have already begun to snarl traffic throughout the CBD, according to numerous reports this morning, the first full work day for many since the restrictions began.

I-10 Lanes to Close in Jefferson Parish

Work to reset concrete barrier walls along Interstate 10 in Jefferson Parish will cause periodic lane closures Sunday and Monday.

State transportation officials say the highway's left eastbound lane between the Veterans Memorial Boulevard and Clearview Parkway exits will be closed on Sunday at 9:30 p.m. and remain closed until 2 a.m. on Monday.

The highway's westbound left lane between the Clearview Parkway and Transcontinental Drive exits will be closed from 12-5:30 a.m. on Monday.

Highway 23 Closure

Belle Chasse tunnel closed until Monday

State transportation officials say the Belle Chasse tunnel on Louisiana Highway 23 will be closed until Monday at 5 a.m. Crews are working on the floodwall at the site, officials say.

The Perez Bridge will handle two-way traffic while the tunnel is closed.

Some lanes of US 190 closed

Authorities in St. Tammany Parish say some lanes of U.S. Highway 190 from U.S. Highway 11 to Interstate 10 will be closed through Monday afternoon for repair work.

At least one lane in each direction will remain open at all times, officials say.

The lane restrictions will allow crews to replace centerline striping.
