Housekeeper Accused of Stealing from Clients

Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies have arrested a housekeeper for allegedly stealing from the Metairie homes she was hired to clean.

The Times-Picayune reports 32-year-old Kelley Jaye, of Metairie, was booked Wednesday with three counts of theft.

Deputies say Jaye is accused of stealing more than $7,000 worth of jewelry and other property from three homes.

Sheriff's Office Spokesman Glen Boyd said investigators don't expect any additional charges in the cases. None of the jewelry has been recovered.

416 LSU Patients Notified of Possible ID Theft

The LSU hospital system has notified 416 patients that their checking account numbers and other personal information has been stolen and may have been used to make counterfeit checks.

Spokesman Marvin McGraw says the information was found in the home of a former employee arrested in November.

He says the LSU Health Care Services Division began notifying patients in November, after learning about the thefts from state police.

Police: Men Use Tow Truck to Steal Cars From Homes

A New Orleans resident has helped police catch two men suspected of using a tow truck to steal cars from homes.

Dawn Dedeaux tells WWL-TV that she caught two men trying to steal her van from a house near the Fair Grounds Race Course. Dedeaux collected enough information that New Orleans police were able to arrest two men who allegedly were towing cars and selling them for scrap in Belle Chasse.

Keith Lanne, 45, and Ruel Smith, 32, both of Gretna, were arrested on multiple counts of theft and conspiracy.

Man arrested in theft of used cooking oil

A 51-year-old man has been was arrested in the theft of used cooking oil from a fried chicken restaurant in Farmerville, La.

Sheriff Bob Buckley told The News-Star Michael Sanderson, of Monroe, was booked Monday into the Union Parish Detention Center for felony theft of more than $1,500. He posted a $3,500 bond and was released.

Buckley says Crime Stoppers of Union Parish received an immediate response when a photograph of the truck used in the thefts was released.

La. man gets prison for $1.2M food stamp theft

A Lake Charles man has been sentenced to more than four years in federal prison for stealing more than $1 million in food stamp benefits.

U.S. District Judge Richard Haik on Tuesday sentenced 46-year-old Vincent Edward DaPrince to 51 months in prison and ordered him to pay more than $1.2 million in restitution to the U.S. Agriculture Department. Haik also ordered him to serve 50 hours of community service following his release from prison.

DaPrince pleaded guilty in April to fraud charges.
