Zephyrs Beat Nashville Sounds 3-1

Nick Green smacked a solo home run and the Zephyrs pitchers limited the Nashville Sounds to one run on five hits as the Zephyrs defeated Nashville 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The Zephyrs offense picked up 11 hits in the game. The scoring started in the second inning when Matt Diaz doubled with one out. Wilson Valdez two out single scored the game’s first run. Green homered to lead off the fourth inning to give the Z’s a 2-0 lead.  Diaz singled, Koyie Hill doubled, and Diaz would score on a Mitch Talbot ground out to give the Z’s a 3-0 lead.

There Can Be Only One! Louisville To Face Michigan For NCAA Title

Following Saturday's Final Four match-ups in Atlanta, the stage is set for Monday's NCAA men's basketball championship where overall No. 1-seeded Louisville will face off against Michigan to take home the coveted NCAA title.

This will be the first game between the two teams, who play in different conferences, since 1978.

Zephyrs Drop Game In Nashville, 6-0

Johnny Hellweg pitched five scoreless innings in his Triple-A debut limiting the Zephyrs to two hits as Nashville shutout the Zephyrs 6-0 in front of 5,997 fans at Greer Stadium in Nashville.

LSU Baseball Game Postponed Due To Rain

The Wally Pontiff, Jr. Classic matchup at Zephyr Field between Louisiana State University and Southern Mississippi has been postponed due to rain, the Zephyrs announced today.

The game has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 9, at 7 p.m. the game will instead feature a contest between the LSU Tigers and Southern University due to scheduling constraints.

The teams made the decision to cancel the game due to heavy rains that passed through the area Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Vasquez, Anderson Lead Hornets Past Cavaliers

Greivis Vasquez scored 25 points and Ryan Anderson added 23 to lead the New Orleans Hornets to a 112-92 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday night.

Anthony Davis had 17 points and 10 rebounds, Brian Roberts scored 15 and Eric Gordon 14 for the Hornets, who snapped a two-game losing streak, including a blowout loss to Miami on Friday. Davis' double-double was his 17th, tops among NBA rookies.

Hornets Steamrolled By The Miami Heat 108-89

The New Orleans Hornets were routed by the Miami Heat Friday night at the New Orleans Arena, 108-89.

The Hornets never had a chance. LeBron James devastated their defense early in the first quarter, putting up 15 points in the first period alone. James, the league’s leader in efficiency stats (32.2 EFF), scored 36 points on 65% shooting, and sat the entire fourth quarter.

James fired home a season high seven three pointers, six during a thirteen minute span during which he sank every field goal he attempted and all but one of his free throws.

Hornets Sign Harris for Remainder of Season

The New Orleans Hornets have signed guard Terrel Harris for the remainder of the season, the team reported today in a press release.

The Hornets have struggled with injuries at the guard position as the season has wound down, losing backup guard Austin Rivers to a broken hand a few weeks ago. Guard Eric Gordon has yet to be cleared to play in back-to-back games by team physicians since returning to the lineup from a lingering knee injury.

Hornets Lose to Clippers, 105-91

The New Orleans Hornets lost to the Los Angeles Clippers Wednesday night at the New Orleans Arena, 105-91.

The Clippers found success in their backcourt, their shooting guards blasting the Hornets from the perimeter. They shot 45% from downtown, landing 13 three-pointers. Los Angeles was also successful at drawing fouls off the dribble, and shot 24-for-28 from the charity stripe; the Hornets committed 25 personal fouls over the course of the evening.

Hornets Snap Nuggets’ Win Streak With 110-86 Victory

The New Orleans Hornets stopped the Denver Nuggets short Monday night, 110-86, snapping the visitors’ 15-game winning streak with a suffocating defense and a torrent of three-point shots.

New Orleans, who entered tonight’s game eleventh in the NBA in three-point scoring, connected on 14 shots from downtown on 56% shooting from three-point land, and were 48.2% from the field overall. Ryan Anderson scored 15 of his 23 points off of threes, and both Darius Miller and Roger Mason landed four-of-five at distance.

Hornets Top The Celtics Off Last-Second Anthony Davis Score, 87-86

With less than a second to play Anthony Davis tipped in a missed layup by teammate Eric Gordon to bring the Hornets ahead of the Celtics 87-86 and notch their first victory in five games.

Boston and New Orleans fought for the lead in the 4th quarter. The lead changed four times and was tied twice. The Celtics rallied their efforts behind the seasoned leadership of Paul Pierce, who scored 11 of his 28 points in the last period. The Hornets’ Ryan Anderson matched Pierce’s scoring, knocking down 11 of his total 21 points in the fourth.
