Pelicans Exercising Third-Year Options On Anthony Davis And Austin Rivers

The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that they are exercising their third-year contract options on forwards Anthony Davis and Austin Rivers.

Exercising the option means both players will be under contract with the team this year, and through the end of next season.

Davis was the first overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. He started 60 or the 64 games he played in last season, averaging 13.5 points, 1.8 blocks and 1.2 steals. Davis was a 2013-13 NBA All-Rookie First Team member, leading all rookies in per-game rebounds, steals, blocks and double-doubles.

Picking The Gridiron Contenders

Bowl Championship Series (PlayoffPAC/Flickr)

Next season, there will be a new playoff system for big time college football.

A committee, which includes former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, will select the four teams that will play in the semifinals ahead of the championship game.

That system will replace the Bowl Championship Series which has, until now, determined which college teams play for the national championship.

Saints Drop Heartbreaker In New England, 30-27

The New Orleans Saints gave up their first loss of the season to the New England Patriots in Foxborough, Mass., 30-27.

Sunday's loss to the Patriots wasn’t the fault of the Saints' defense.

Rob Ryan’s squad gave the team two chances to win the game in the final minutes. All they needed was a first down and the game would be over. But the Saints’ offense blew both chances to run out the clock, and a rare poor punt by Thomas Morstead gave the Pats good field position.

New Orleans Saints Overcome First Half Woes In 31-7 Win Over Arizona Cardinals

The New Orleans Saints are still undefeated, after their 31-7 victory over the Arizona Cardinals Sunday at home in the Superdome.

The Arizona Cardinals spent five minutes and forty-seven seconds marching down the field on the first possession of the game.

It was the only time they would score.

In a dramatic turnaround from last season, it was the Saints young defense who stood up to make the big plays, keeping Arizona off the field and giving quarterback Drew Brees and company the space to work.

Getting together to watch the New Orleans Saints play is a special ritual for New Orleanians — but for half the season our beloved boys in black and gold are on the road, so we cram together in barrooms and living rooms to cheer them on, rather than fill up the Superdome.

We’re chronicling those other places that mean so much to us, from corner bars to TV studios to living rooms.
