Anderson Lifts Hornets Over Trail Blazers, 98-96

Ryan Anderson capped a 20-point performance with a layup as he was fouled with 1.8 seconds left, and the New Orleans Hornets snapped a three-game skid with a 98-96 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night.

Anderson also hit a 3 with 15.6 seconds left that gave the Hornets a 95-93 lead, but Portland rookie Damian Lillard reached the 20-point mark for a sixth straight game by draining a 3 with 11.2 seconds left.

Greivis Vasquez, who also had 20 points, then dribbled out of traffic along the perimeter and found Anderson inside for the winning bucket.

Hornets Roll Over in Fourth Quarter in Loss to Lakers, 108-102

Kobe Bryant scored 47 points and the Los Angeles Lakers scored 33 points in the fourth quarter to defeat the New Orleans Hornets 108-102 Wednesday night at the New Orleans Arena.

The Lakers were down by as many as 25 points during Wednesday’s contest, but capitalized on an inexperienced New Orleans team that failed to score a point in the final 6:47 of the game. The Lakers scored 20 unanswered points on their way to victory.

Notes: Tonight's Hornets/Lakers Matchup

The New Orleans Hornets and Los Angeles Lakers are set to tip off here at the New Orleans Arena at 7 p.m.

Los Angeles is coming into tonight’s game fresh off a 122-105 loss to the Thunder in Oklahoma City last night. The team flew in to New Orleans late last night, and arrived at the Arena at 5:14 p.m. this afternoon.

Lakers Head Coach Mike D’Antoni said arriving the night before won’t have an effect on his team.

High School Leaders at Odds Over Football Playoffs

Louisiana's high schools leaders are clashing over new plans for football playoffs.

A decision by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association will separate traditional public school football playoffs from those held by private, magnet and charter schools.

Public school principals who pushed the separation told lawmakers Tuesday that the other schools have unfair rules that allow them to cherry-pick the kinds of students — and football players — they take.

Plenty Of Magic In The Arena, But None For The Hornets: Orlando Wins 105-102

Tonight’s Hornets game against the Orlando Magic at the New Orleans Arena proceeded like you might expect between two young teams with dismal records — a back-and-forth contest with long scoreless stretches by each club, sloppy turnovers, 41 combined fouls and other attendant miseries.

There was a lot of everything tonight, but the Magic had a little more of it. They won, 105-102.
