SLU Offers Bookkeeping Certificate Program

Southeastern Louisiana University will offer a bookkeeping certificate program beginning in February.

Three courses make up the program, which uses QuickBooks 2012 software.

North Texas Beats Southeastern Louisiana 45-40

Roger Franklin scored 12 points to lead North Texas to a 45-40 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday.

Alzee Williams added 11 points, and Tony Mitchell pulled down 10 rebounds and eight points for the Mean Green (4-6).

North Texas led 19-18 at halftime in a game with six lead changes. The Mean Green's largest lead was nine with 2.19 to play in the game. North Texas had 16 points off Southeastern Louisiana turnovers.

Brandon Fortenberry had 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lions (1-7).

SLU sets Constitution Day lecture

Ryan Rowberry, a former U.S. Supreme Court fellow, will be the featured lecturer as Southeastern Louisiana University marks Constitution Day on Thursday.

Rowberry is an assistant professor at the Georgia State University College of Law and associate director of the Center for the Comparative Study of Metropolitan Growth. His presentation, "The History, Structure, and Challenges of the U.S. Legal System," is set for 1 p.m. in Southeastern's Student Union Theatre.

It is free and open to the public.

SLU seeks oldest living graduate

The Southeastern Louisiana University Alumni Association is searching for the university's oldest living graduate.

Alumni Association director Kathy Pittman said the search is part of the group's 85th anniversary and SLU's 2012 homecoming festivities.

Deadline to submit names for consideration is Oct. 2. The person identified as the oldest living graduate will be recognized at the alumni association's awarded ceremony on Oct. 26, Pittman said.

Threat from Isaac closes SLU

Classes and all activities at Southeastern Louisiana University have been canceled through Friday because of the threat from Hurricane Isaac.

The university says classes will resume on Tuesday after the Labor Day holiday.

The Hammond campus and its St. Tammany Center in Mandeville, Livingston Parish Literacy and Technology Center in Walker and nursing school in Baton Rouge will open for staff to return on Friday.
