Former two-term New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for corruption. The jail time is half of what prosecutors wanted.

Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin is set to be sentenced Wednesday morning for corruption. the man who gained national attention after Hurricane Katrina nine years ago is now looking at a possible 20-year sentence. Prosecutors want the maximum allowed under federal guidelines.

There’s been another delay in the sentencing of former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin. The federal court is now scheduled to decide the case  July 9.

Former Mayor Nagin could be facing at least 20 years for the 20 guilty verdicts he received on corruption charges.

They include bribery, fraud and money laundering that occurred during his two terms in office. It’s the second delay in the sentencing.

A federal judge is ordering former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin to pay the government more than a half-million dollars, stemming from his corruption conviction. The order comes ahead of his sentencing set for next month.

Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin has become the first mayor in the city’s history to be convicted of corruption. A jury of six men and six women found him guilty of 20 of 21 charges of bribery, money laundering and tax evasion.

Former New Orleans Mayor Found Guilty On 20 Counts

A federal jury has convicted former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin on charges that he accepted bribes, free trips and other gratuities from contractors in exchange for helping them secure millions of dollars in city work while he was in office.

The jury today convicted Nagin of 20 of 21 counts against him.

Nagin was indicted in January 2013 on charges he accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes and truckloads of free granite for his family business in exchange for promoting the interests of a local businessman.

A federal jury has found Ray Nagin guilty of bribery and fraud. The former New Orleans mayor, 57, was accused of taking hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes and kickbacks, in an indictment that included 21 counts. He was found guilty on 20 of those counts.
