A Northwestern State University professor has received a $50,000 grant to publish a three-volume set of the Charles Goodnight papers. Goodnight was one of the most prosperous and prominent cattlemen in the American West. The novel “Lonesome Dove” is a fictionalized account of a Goodnight cattle drive. Northwestern State associate professor of history John Price is sifting through thousands of Goodnight artifacts.
Northwestern State University's director of bands Jeff Mathews will go to Manchester, England, Monday to conduct the Royal Northern College of Music Wind Orchestra in a studio recording of "Cane River Murals."
Northwestern State University will dedicate two buildings at the heart of its Natchitoches, La., campus today. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and state officials are scheduled to be in attendance when the university officially opens the newly-renovated Caspari Hall and the Student Services Center. Combined, these projects cost $12.1 million. They were funded through state surplus revenue five years ago.
