To paraphrase Dr. John, such a weekend!

From the Westbank to New Orleans to Slidell, Carnival officially kicked into high gear these past few days as 19 krewes rolled, celebrating everything from lions and dogs, to Wookies and Greek gods… even Mona Lisa & Moon Pies.

But, now it stops. For nine days. Because the Super Bowl is coming to town. I’d rather have Santa Claus.

New Orleanians often have to justify why they live in their city, perhaps more frequently than other Americans. Whether it's with friends, family or themselves, it's a conversation most residents will have. But perhaps the answer is more universal than we think.

30 Under 30: Kickball

I’m breaking the cardinal rule of this column, which aims to direct the under-30 crowd to experiences that’ll cost them less than $30, by encouraging something that may cost nearly double that.

Kickball! Everyone join a kickball league! I’m telling you it’s worth it.

Ever since college, I’ve realized a few things about myself: 1) that I enjoy the occasional libation, and 2) I miss team sports and the quasi-competitiveness that comes from them.

That’s why I will be signing up for a league to reign in the New Year.

WWNO announces new local news collaboration

In conjunction with today’s expansion of its radio news programs, WWNO is announcing the creation of a community news-gathering collaboration that will increase local news coverage on both broadcast and digital platforms. The news operation will introduce content from a trio of nonprofit news and information partners, bringing together experienced local journalists at a critical point in the renewal of our city, region and community.
