members make it possible

Your donation today is what makes the Membership Drive Kick-Off Hour a success. When you give to the Lagniappe Fund, you lead the way, encouraging other listeners to become new members of the station.  They hear your message loud and clear: Public radio is important.

WWNO — New Orleans Public Radio, is listener-supported. That means support from the 1.5 million people in the station's 11-parish audience is our number-one means of support.

WWNO's business manager is a member, too! Jameeta Youngblood explains why she became a sustaining member, rather than a dollar-a-day member like she's been in the past.

"It was easier for me to become a sustaining member," Jameeta said. "I felt like I wouldn't have to constantly be reminded to renew my membership, it would automatically happen. I just felt it was something easy for me to do and a lot less work for the membership staff."

Take a look at some of the photos from our Spring Membership Drive, already in full swing! Thanks so much to all of our donors and volunteers, and to you for making New Orleans public radio possible.

Gratitude!  That’s what we at WWNO feel at during our membership drive. With the support of hundreds of donors in the last few days, not to mention many others who gave to our Lagniappe Fund earlier this month, we have had a very successful drive so far — but we’re not done yet!

Doug Christian's youngest brother works in public radio in Kansas, so that's where his donations go.

But Doug is a New Orleanian and avid WWNO listener. "I have this tremendous guilt that I am not supporting the station here."

So what does he do? Doug volunteers.

"I spend my time here, and spend my money there."

Stephanie Reed

Listener Stephanie Reed says she searched out two things right away when she moved to New Orleans from Maine three years ago: her local farmers market and WWNO.

"That's a good way to feel at home in a new place," Stephanie told WWNO's Fred Kasten.

Terry Gross on Becoming a Sustaining Member

Fresh Air's Terry Gross has a message for WWNO's listeners: become a sustaining member.

Sustaining membership is an ongoing gift from your bank account, or credit or debit card. It's quick and easy to set up, and takes the hassle out of remembering to keep up with your gifts.

Keeping great programming like Fresh Air on the air here in New Orleans is important. Coverage like ours is rare, valuable and necessary — and your help makes a big difference.

Fall Membership Drive A Smashing Success!

Oct 29, 2012

Gratitude! That's what we at WWNO feel at the conclusion of our Fall Membership Drive, which took place from Oct. 19-26. With the support of over 1000 donors in the last ten days, not to mention many others who gave to our Lagniappe Fund earlier in October, we have had a very successful Fall Drive. We at the station were struck by the high number of new and returning members and by the many enthusiastic comments that donors made online or on the phones, voicing support for the new schedule of programs on 89.9 and for 24-hour classical music on WWNO2.

2013 NPR Wall Calendar: March

Oct 19, 2012

"Through NPR, I travel to places I can't usually go. I enjoy the storytelling aspect of radio. Even in interviews, people talk about their experiences and their stories. I feel like NPR allows me to temporarily go to different places and connects me to experiences and events I wouldn't have the knowledge of otherwise."
