mandatory evacuation

Hurricane season starts today, and the city encourages all residents to have their own evacuation plan. But not everyone can get out of town on their own. That’s why New Orleans has developed a citywide assisted evacuation system. To run smoothly, a lot of agencies have to work together - and people have to know about it, too.

St. Charles Parish announces mandatory evacuation

Aug 26, 2012

The St. Charles Parish Emergency Operations Center has called a mandatory evacuation for both East and West Bank residents as of 6 p.m. Aug. 26 due to the threat of dangerous storm surge and winds from Tropical Storm Isaac. (For a list of recommended evacuation routes, visit www.stcharlesparish-la.gov/hurricane.)

Mayor David Camardelle has declared a state of emergency for the Town of Grand Isle, and has issued a mandatory evacuation order.

The statement, issued at 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, was enacted due to the tropical storm watch — encompassing the entire eastern Gulf Coast — issued by the National Weather Service in advance of the approach of Tropical Storm Isaac.

The mandatory evacuation is in effect for camper trailers, recreational vehicles and tourists as of 2:00 p.m. today, and for all residents of Grand Isle as of 9:00 a.m. Monday, August 27.
