Spirit Airlines to start service to New Orleans

Spirit Airlines is starting service to New Orleans, offering daily non-stop flights between Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

New Orleans International says the low-cost carrier plans to start the flights on Jan. 24 with either a 145-seat Airbus A319 or 178-seat Airbus A320.

The planned flight schedule calls for one round trip between New Orleans and Dallas daily.

Barriere only bidder for I-10 work

The state is preparing to spend millions of dollars repaving Interstate 10 in Kenner and the Airport Access Road.

The Times-Picayune reports Barriere Construction Co. this week entered the only bid to overlay the highway between the St. Charles Parish line and Williams Boulevard.

Barriere's bid — almost $4.8 million — came in about $500,000 above the state's Department of Transportation and Development estimate of almost $4.2 million.

Construction usually begins two to four months after bids are opened.

N.O. Airport Wants Renovations Done by Super Bowl

Louisiana's major airport is trying to finish several renovation projects before the 2013 Super Bowl in New Orleans.

New Orleans CityBusiness said the Louis Armstrong International Airport is planning for 42,000 visitors leaving the city the day after the game.

Airport spokeswoman Michelle Wilcut says a new parking garage is about 65 percent complete. The exterior of the terminal is being remodeled to feature a glass front. The interior is getting new lighting, carpeting and painting.
