Kenner Restarts Recycling Program

Kenner officials say two locations are now available for residents to drop off recyclable materials.

Kenner suspended its recycling program after Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005.

The city and contractor Ramelli Waste have set up collection locations on Vintage Drive and at the City Hall.

Man Killed Crossing Airline Highway

State police say a 45-year-old pedestrian was killed on Airline Highway in Kenner.

Troopers say Chris Robertson of Kenner was attempting to cross the road around 9 p.m. Monday when he was struck by an SUV.

Robertson was taken to a New Orleans hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Man allegedly asked cop to find his marijuana

Police in the New Orleans suburb of Kenner say a traffic stop led to two arrests after a passenger allegedly asked an officer to find some marijuana he had dropped on a levee bank.

The Times-Picayune says 18-year-old driver Chad Nicholson of Reserve and 21-year-old Jason Ray Sr. of LaPlace were booked on marijuana charges.

Police said the car smelled of marijuana when they stopped it Aug. 27 near businesses that closed ahead of Hurricane Isaac.

Cops: Dad used girl, 5, as shield from mom's knife

Kenner police say a 5-year-old girl's back was gashed and both of her ankles cut when her father used her as a shield from her mother's knife attack. According to the arrest report, the wound in her back needed 22 staples, and her ankles needed a total of 11 stitches — seven in the left and four in the right.

The Times-Picayune reports 25-year-old Kenisha Caples and 44-year-old Maurice Sparkman were arrested Sunday, a day after their fight.
