Jori Lirette's Father Tells Doctors Beheaded Son Wasn't Real

Experts testify that a man accused of beheading his disabled 7-year-old son and leaving the head in his yard really thinks the boy was a robot or a ventriloquist's dummy.

The Daily Comet reports that a psychiatrist and a psychologist testifying for Jeremiah Wright have told state District Judge John LeBlanc Tuesday that they don't think Wright is faking a delusion about Jori Lirette.

Testimony continues Wednesday and Thursday in the sanity hearing for Wright, who is charged with first-degree murder of Lirette.

Doctors: Father competent to stand trial in Thibodaux decapitation

Count documents show doctors believe a Thibodaux man accused of decapitating his disabled 7-year-old son nearly a year ago is competent to stand trial.

The Courier reports doctors have been treating Jeremiah Wright at the Feliciana Forensic Facility in Jackson for the past nine months.

Wright is accused of the Aug. 14 first-degree murder of Jori Lirette, who had cerebral palsy. Jori used a wheelchair and had to be fed through a tube.

A competency hearing is scheduled for Sept. 21.
