Christus Health To Close Main Shreveport Hospital

Christus Health will close its Christus Schumpert St. Mary's Place medical complex in Shreveport and consolidate many services into its Highland Medical Center in Shreveport. CEO Stephen Wright announced at a news conference Monday that the cost cutting move will eliminate 200 jobs over the next two years, trimming its workforce by about 10 percent.

La. Hospital Privitization Costs Still Foggy After Auditor's Report

Lawmakers that have fought the Administration for more power in the process of privatizing the state’s charity hospitals may get their wish as they consider funding for the cost of laying off hospital workers.

According to a report by the state auditor’s office, the privatization will cost the state 42 million dollar in leave payouts and unemployment payments.

Thibodaux Hospital Plans $63M Wellness Center

Thibodaux Regional Medical Center is moving forward with plans to build a $63 million wellness center that will focus on preventative health care with an education and fitness focus.

Thibodaux Regional is a 185-bed hospital that employs about 1,100 people, including 225 doctors. The hospital sees about 100,000 people annually on an outpatient basis.

New Orleans East Groundbreaking Heralds Return of Hospital

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu and Archbishop Gregory Aymond are among the dignitaries set to take part in the groundbreaking for a facility aimed at bringing full hospital service back to the New Orleans East area.

The $130 million project is to be constructed on the site of the former Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital.

Friday's ceremony, which had been re-set after a pre-holiday postponement, marks the pending return of a full-service hospital to an area hard-hit by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
