Loyola University New Orleans is celebrating its centennial throughout the year with a series of events featuring acclaimed guest speakers, authors and artists. The series is intended to provide an array of cultural, artistic, Catholic and intellectual perspectives.

The Centennial Guest Series was developed by Loyola President Kevin Wm. Wildes, and well-known political power couple, and New Orleans residents, Mary Matalin and James Carville.

Instead of staying on until his retirement in October, it was reported this morning that Florida A&M University President James Ammons' resignation will be effective immediately.

The head of a prominent conservative Christian group in Louisiana is critical of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette for offering a new minor in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender studies.

The Advocate reports that the area of study was first offered in the spring.

Louisiana Family Forum President Gene Mills said the coursework does not reflect Louisiana values. And U.S. Rep. Jeff Landry, a New Iberia Republican, said it doesn't provide an academic benefit to students.
