Several federal agencies are teaming up to do a multi-year survey of marine life in the Gulf of Mexico. The goal is to better understand how oil and gas activities impact marine species, and it’s huge in scope.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order last week calling for more oil and gas drilling. But the final call is up to the Secretary of the Department of the Interior.

 

On Monday, the secretary endorsed Trump’s plan -- and then some.

The Shell oil company says an oil sheen it reported in the Gulf of Mexico is breaking up. Federal officials will continue searching for the source.
