Residents respond to the oil spill in different ways

New Orleans, LA – This Week, federal authorities expanded the area off-limits to fishing to 11,000 square miles of coastline stretching from Louisiana to Florida. Oil has been spilling from the Deepwater Horizon well for close to 3 weeks, and attempts to stop the flow have so far failed. As the mass of oil nears the Louisiana marshes, residents respond to try and save the wetlands that protect cities from hurricanes and provide breeding grounds for fish and wildlife. Seafood sellers wait and see with oil spill

New Orleans, LA – The oil leak in the gulf is already begun to impact louisiana's seafood industry. Local sellers report an uptick in business in the past week from customers who worry their next shrimp poboy could be their last for a while. But as the long-term effects of this spill remain unclear, some are wringing their hands while others are shrugging it off. Eric Eagan has the story.

Shell Beach fisherman bracing for oil fallout

New Orleans, LA – Just east of the Mississippi River and about 20 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, Shell Beach, Louisiana is a community of fisherman and fishing camps put on hold. Their waters closed to the oyster and shrimp boats which normally would do a brisk business this time of year, Shell Beach residents are bracing to see what becomes of their livelihoods and their home.
