Environmental Group Calls for Scrutiny of Oil Industry

New Orleans, La. – Thirty-two vessels are circling the waters around the rainbow sheen over the sunken Deepwater Horizon rig. Platform operator Transocean of Houston, which was contracted by BP, says it appears the well 5,000 feet below the surface is capped. But Anne Rolfes (raul-fus) of the Bucket Brigade, which monitors oil refineries in Louisiana, is skeptical.

Coast Guard Suspends Search for Oil Workers

New Orleans, La. – Rear Admiral Mary Landry said extensive searches found no traces of the men, despite clear weather and calm seas. Relatives were told that it was up to them if they wanted the men's identities withheld.

"These people preferred not to have their names released and we're going to respect their privacy. I can say that the workers came from three states - Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana." :11

Underwater Spill Appears Contained

New Orleans, La. – Rear Admiral Mary Landry said underwater equipment at the well shows no traces of crude leaking into the water. A blow-out prevention valve seems to be closed. But clean-up teams remain on standby.

"Until the well head is officially sealed and temporarily abandoned and the process is complete we will prepare for a response. And we have robust assets and a command post and we're fully staffed to respond to a major spill." :14
