Dana Reed’s career as a dancer has taken her across the country. While studying dance education at the University of Southern Mississippi, she spent her summers at the nationally renowned Bates Dance Festival in Lewiston, Maine. There she met dancer and activist Jane Weiner, who introduced her to the concept of community arts programs.

We go Inside the Arts for conversation with Aspen Santa Fe Ballet's artistic director Tom Mossbrucker.

The New Orleans Ballet Association [NOBA] presents the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet in an evening of dance, Saturday, February 23 at 8 p.m. at the Mahalia Jackson Theater. More info at nobadance.com.

Jessica Lang, one of the most sought-after choreographers in the country is heading to New Orleans. We go Inside the Arts for a sneak peek at Jessica Lang Dance, a dynamic ballet company that promises an engaging evening of dance.

 

The New Orleans Hornets are holding auditions in Westwego, Baton Rouge and Biloxi, Miss., to pick members of next season's Honeybees dance squad.

Auditions at the Alario Center in Westwego start Saturday morning. The Baton Rouge auditions are Sunday afternoon at Tari's School of Dance. The Biloxi auditions were held Thursday.

Roughly 40 finalists will be picked from the three auditions to compete July 22 for spots on the squad. Only those final auditions will be open to the public.

The Joffrey Ballet

The New Orleans Ballet Association closes its  2011-12 season with one of the world's leading ballet companies.  We go Inside the Arts as the Joffrey Ballet returns to the city with a grand program of masterworks.

The Loyola Ballet celebrates National Dance Week and Loyola University's centennial with a mixed repertory program on Saturday, April 28 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 29 at 3 p.m., in Louis J. Roussel Performance Hall, located in the Communications/Music Complex on Loyola's main campus. The performances, directed by Laura Zambrano, include classical, contemporary and character works.

Superstar dancers will make history, in a one night only performance, as the New Orleans Ballet Association and Chevron present the return of Complexions Contemporary Ballet—with guests Wendy Whelan and the Nicholas Payton Quartet.  We go Inside the Arts for conversation with the founders of this New York ballet troupe.  

One performance, Saturday April 21st, Mahalia Jackson Theater, 8 p.m.
