Police: man allegedly tried to get drugs to inmate

Richwood police accuse a Marrero man of trying to slip marijuana to an inmate in the Richwood jail.

The News-Star reports that 36-year-old Davion Matthews was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on Saturday on charges of possessing marijuana and bringing contraband into a penal facility.

An arrest affidavit says a guard at Richwood Correctional Center called police after allegedly seeing Matthews slide something under a cell door. It says police searched the cell and found a bag of suspected marijuana.

Bond was $750 on the marijuana charge.

Judge orders psychiatric exam in airport incident

A psychiatric exam has been ordered for a Baton Rouge man who locked himself in the cockpit of an unoccupied plane at Metro Airport in August.

The Advocate reports that the order was issued Friday by U.S. District Judge James J. Brady at the request of J. David Bourland, Alessi's attorney.

Alessi has been held at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison since he surrendered to authorities at the airport.

No one was injured during the Aug. 22 incident.

St. John deputies kill two in Reserve

The St. John the Baptist Parish sheriff's office says deputies killed a man and a woman who threatened them with weapons.

A news release says the deputies answered a report of a disturbance Tuesday evening and found the man and woman in a confrontation with a weapon.

It says both turned out to be armed and each was shot while heading toward the deputies with a weapon. Both died at River Parish Hospital.

Man with long arrest record accused of looting in Golden Meadow

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre says a 32-year-old Golden Meadow man with a long arrest record is accused of looting.

He says deputies got a clear description of a man seen breaking into a vehicle and trying to break into a house in Golden Meadow, and went looking for Jeremy Rogers.

They found him Tuesday in a truck outside a store in Galliano. He got out and ran. Webre says he was arrested in Cut Off.
