The indelible images of the oil disaster in the Gulf thus far have been revoltingly dramatic, like the stricken Deepwater Horizon rig consumed by fire, like the seabirds coated in crude or like the once-pristine beaches slathered in oil. But some impacts from this disaster are harder to spot, more private and concealed, though still devastating for the people dealing with them.

New Orleans, LA – Spinal cord injuries are complex and have been difficult to treat, but In Covington there is some groundbreaking medical research taking place that may make a big difference in the how these types of injuries can be better treated in the future. WWNO's Jollaine Schear has the story.

It's common to hear oohs and aahs from people touring Global Green's visitor center in the Lower Ninth Ward. The center is a model house and it's part of Global Green's Holy Cross Project, a large-scale showcase for the energy savings potential in both new construction and historic homes. But Beth Galante, the New Orleans director for Global Green, says sometimes the center makes a much deeper impression on visitors.
