Airport to cease operation at end of day

The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport will cease operation at the end of today, and remain closed until at least Wednesday, officials said in a press release.

No flights are scheduled for Tuesday, August 28.

Airport officials also reiterated that the facility is not an evacuation shelter, and people will not be permitted to remain in the terminal during the storm. Parking garages are also restricted to ticketed passengers only, and travelers should be prepared to show a printed boarding pass or itinerary in order to enter Airport property.

State government offices to close in 22 parishes

State government offices across 22 parishes will shut down Tuesday and Wednesday because of Tropical Storm Isaac, expected to grow into a hurricane.

Commissioner of Administration Paul Rainwater on Monday announced the closures, which cover parishes in the tropical storm warning, hurricane watch and hurricane warning areas.

Southern University campuses shut down for Isaac

The Southern University System is shutting down campuses in advance of the storm.

The system announced that Southern University-New Orleans has canceled all remaining classes Monday and will remain shuttered through Wednesday. SUNO is evacuating 90 students living in residential facilities to the system's Baton Rouge campus.

Meanwhile, the Baton Rouge campus won't hold classes Tuesday and Wednesday, the system announced.

Hwy. 90 to close in St. Charles Parish

Hwy. 90 will be blocked in both directions at the Davis Diversion in St. Charles Parish at 6:00 p.m. this evening (Aug. 27), the parish said in a press release earlier this afternoon.

There will be no through traffic in either direction on Hwy. 90 after that time.

WTUL to go off air for Isaac

WTUL 90.5 FM, Tulane University's student-run radio station, will be going off the air from midnight tonight to 8:00 a.m. Thursday.

The closure is in response to the approach of Tropical Storm Isaac, the station said today on its Twitter feed.

Lafourche Parish Government offices close as Isaac approaches

Lafourche Parish President Charlotte Randolph said today that Lafourche Parish Government offices will close to the public from Monday, August 27 through Wednesday, August 29, 2012 because of Tropical Storm Isaac.

However, all field offices will be open and fully staffed in order to prepare drainage ditches, storm drains and sandbags. All other parish government employees will remain on a standby status through Wednesday.
