Warriors Hold Off Hornets 103-96

David Lee had 26 points and nine rebounds, Klay Thompson finished with 19 points and the Golden State Warriors brought their surprising road run home with a 103-96 victory over the struggling New Orleans Hornets on Tuesday night.

After going 6-1 on the season's longest road stretch, the Warriors built a 14-point lead in the second quarter and held off the Hornets late. Golden State (17-8) is off to its best start since the 1991-92 season, when the team began 21-8.

North Texas Beats Southeastern Louisiana 45-40

Roger Franklin scored 12 points to lead North Texas to a 45-40 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday.

Alzee Williams added 11 points, and Tony Mitchell pulled down 10 rebounds and eight points for the Mean Green (4-6).

North Texas led 19-18 at halftime in a game with six lead changes. The Mean Green's largest lead was nine with 2.19 to play in the game. North Texas had 16 points off Southeastern Louisiana turnovers.

Brandon Fortenberry had 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lions (1-7).

Hornets Sign F Dominic McGuire

The New Orleans Hornets have signed forward Dominic McGuire to shore up their frontcourt in the absence of Jason Smith, who is out with a right shoulder injury.

McGuire averaged 2.1 points and 3.2 rebounds in just over 15 minutes per game for the Toronto Raptors earlier this season, appearing in 15 games before he was waived on Nov. 30.

The 6-foot-9 forward, in his sixth NBA season, has also had stints with Washington, Sacramento, Charlotte and Golden State. He's averaged 2.8 points and 3.4 rebounds in 331 career games.

Lillard's Last-Second 3-Pointer Lifts Blazers Over Hornets

Rookie Damian Lillard hit a 3-pointer with 0.3 seconds left and the Portland Trail Blazers handed New Orleans its sixth straight loss with a 95-94 victory over the Hornets on Sunday night.

After trailing by as many as 16, Austin Rivers hit a 3-pointer for the Hornets to tie it at 92 with 50.9 seconds left. The Blazers then absorbed a blow when LaMarcus Aldridge suddenly came up limping and headed to the locker room with what appeared to be a left ankle injury, but Lillard came through to give Portland the win.

The Hornets start a four game road trip tonight in Portland, where they’ll face the Trail Blazers. New Orleans (5-17) is looking to snap a six-game losing streak.

Portland defeated the Hornets in all four of their meetings last year.

Timberwolves Eclipse Rivers’ Career Night, 113-102

The Minnesota Timberwolves beat the New Orleans Hornets under the rim tonight, 113-102, their dominance in the paint overshadowing the Hornets’ 53 percent shooting and a career performance by guard Austin Rivers.

Nikola Pekovic led Minnesota with a career high 31 points, all but one of his shots from in the key. Pekovic bullied the Hornets defense into allowing him to shoot 14-18 from the field, and the rest of the Timberwolves followed suit, with 70 of their points scored from down-low. Minnesota also scored 24 second-chance points as they out-rebounded the Hornets 40-30.

Hornets Play Well But Lose to the Thunder, 92-88

The New Orleans Hornets put up a great defensive effort against the Oklahoma City Thunder on the road yesterday evening, but were unable to keep pace in the final minutes, losing 92-88.

The New Orleans defense kept the Thunder to season-low scoring at the end of the first quarter (17 points) and before halftime (36 points). Their strategy: to keep the NBA’s top scoring team to a low output that they could attempt to match.

Hornets Sunk by Wizards, 77-70

The Hornets handed the Washington Wizards the win Tuesday night at the Hive, 77-70, buried under a lackluster effort and 32.5% shooting, a new season low. The Hornets starters only scored 41 points, and the team put up a paltry 28 points in the entire second half.

Experience Over Youth as Memphis Beats N.O., 96-89

Despite the Hornets’ best efforts the Memphis veterans out-played the young New Orleans team Friday night, 96-89. Memphis starters Rudy Gay, Zach Randolph and Mark Gasol combined for 56 points and 24 rebounds.

The Grizzlies’ defense grinded the Hornets, capturing 35 defensive rebounds, with Randolph and Gasol together contributing 17 boards. The Grizzlies snagged nine steals, five alone from Mike Conley, blocked the Bees six times, and scored 19 points off of Hornets turnovers.
