Hornets Waive Forward Dominic McGuire

The New Orleans Hornets have waived forward Dominic McGuire, who's been with the club a little under a month.

Since being signed on Dec. 16, the 6-foot-9 McGuire has appeared in nine games. He's averaged 2.1 points, 3.1 rebounds and an assist in 16 minutes per game.

McGuire, a six-year veteran, has career averages of 2.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists in 340 games, including 83 starts.

McGuire's release has trimmed the Hornets' active roster to 13 players.

Rockets Bombard Hornets for a Win, 104-92

The New Orleans Hornets trailed the Houston Rockets for most of the game last night, and were unable to capitalize on a 4th quarter comeback, losing in Houston 104-92.

Ryan Anderson and Greivis Vasquez, who together put up a meager 4 of 17 shooting effort through the first three quarters, led the Hornets surge in the final quarter. They combined for a total of 19 points in the 4th, shooting 61.5%, as they tried to overtake the Rockets. They managed to tie it up, but Houston went on a 12-4 scoring run in the final moments to regain and keep the lead.

Hornets Lose at Home to Hawks, 95-86

The New Orleans Hornets were up by six at halftime Tuesday night at the New Orleans Arena, but lost ground to the Atlanta Hawks in the 3rd quarter, couldn’t catch up, and lost, 95-86.

After the break Atlanta put up a veteran front that New Orleans just could not match. Josh Smith, the Hawks’ top scorer and a nine-year veteran, aggressively attacked the Bees on both sides of the court, scoring a total of 23 points, along with 13 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals and 4 blocked shots.

Preview: Hornets/Hawks

The Hornets start off the new year with a matchup against the Atlanta Hawks. Tuesday’s game will also be the home debut of Eric Gordon. The guard had been stricken with an injured knee for most of last season and returned to action this last Saturday against the Charlotte Bobcats. Gordon put up a strong effort in his first game back, he scored 24 points, 7 assists, and 2 steals, playing around 25 minutes.
