Fans of the Price is Right know two things for sure: when in doubt, bid one dollar. And always spay or neuter your pet!

Game show host Bob Barker encouraged viewers to spay or neuter their pets because spay/neuter is the best way to reduce the number of unwanted animals in shelters.

Spaying or neutering your pet can cut down on unwelcome behaviors associated with mating, like howling, marking and certain outward displays of affection.

Let’s talk adoption. 17 million Americans get a new pet each year, but only 3.5 million adopt that pet from an animal shelter.

Many people don’t realize that breeders and pet stores are simply reproducing mass quantities of cats and dogs to sustain their business.

That’s where animal shelters come in! Walk into any shelter in Louisiana and you'll find pets of all shapes, sizes and personalities. They're vaccinated, spayed, neutered, microchipped and ready to be adopted!

Remember our reports a few months ago on the odd couple who struck an innovative compromise between egg producers and animal welfare activists? (Here's a hint: The deal calls for egg producers to replace their standard cages with new "enriched" accommodations, complete with perches and nest boxes where chickens can lay their eggs.)
